Oh Lynda Barry....

The lecture from this tuesday was absolutely fantastic. On friday I went and picked up one of the free copies of her book, What It Is, and read it that same night. It was extremely inspiring to hear from an experienced artist/cartoonist that it's okay to be a kid and remain curious about how our memories relate later on in life. She spoke honestly and with such a genuine tone. Her work reflected a deep exploration of image and space, but remained personal by the way she composed the pages. Overall, I've learned from her that stories and personal experiences are such an important aspect to art and one should never stifle play. Play keeps us sane.
