At first I was really unconvinced, but the mutation was actually pretty well done.<br /><br />Somewhere discovered Joy Division while looking around the internet. I've been on an English kick lately and this sent me over the top. Watched the film "Control" and bummed out pretty bad. The lead singer killed himself when he was 23 and the movie is pretty much the back story of why he did what he did. Really good, shot very well in black in white, made me very very very very very jaded and fearful of relationships.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5-XMYZRzl8MpxsupPNlWTLQ2FSezaTY-3w6qfx1UMXoRXW6OG0XvPK1jwhwV0SrKyuSARaQSGpp4F0MpfNKYBjoxqLEAk9WPHazmmt8Nws66vljxLugLJSFKGjPPtnQotepu5Z9_nhVrp/s1600/control.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5-XMYZRzl8MpxsupPNlWTLQ2FSezaTY-3w6qfx1UMXoRXW6OG0XvPK1jwhwV0SrKyuSARaQSGpp4F0MpfNKYBjoxqLEAk9WPHazmmt8Nws66vljxLugLJSFKGjPPtnQotepu5Z9_nhVrp/s320/control.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463940685659794258" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKpbVhJ29Nq4kJFTKGHNTs36r26qDAL7DR5R0LiBxyX8De1fFZQJ_HlC23vWW-2o-f3hTkLWBchkRlMPMZHmjro8fdnoVI5IOYthSiEqL9jIEQ2EwJRl6V5t2D2sK_1x58HyJuPi7ReJ4J/s1600/images.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 127px; height: 85px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKpbVhJ29Nq4kJFTKGHNTs36r26qDAL7DR5R0LiBxyX8De1fFZQJ_HlC23vWW-2o-f3hTkLWBchkRlMPMZHmjro8fdnoVI5IOYthSiEqL9jIEQ2EwJRl6V5t2D2sK_1x58HyJuPi7ReJ4J/s320/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463940680096074354" /></a><br /><br />Tomorrow's going to be a 3d do or die day. Earlier I was listening to H2O (a hardcore/straight edge band) and now I'm into this new Drake song. Music is seriously going to save my ass during finals. It's some of my main motivation to get work done. <br /><br />Let's do this!<br /><br />(ps. 3d glassblowing tools will be posted tomorrow. Right now I am way too bust covering this box for 2d. There is something about those in the fashion world that strikes me as oddly endearing but also extremely distant from the rest of humanity. Take a look at the interview for yourself...<br /><br /><a href="http://www.viceland.com/int/v17n3/htdocs/karl-lagerfeld-369.php?comment_page=2#comments">Vice x Karl Lagerfeld</a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.shoeperwoman.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/chanel-shoes-spring-2010.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 630px; height: 385px;" src="http://www.shoeperwoman.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/chanel-shoes-spring-2010.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>Dana Laskowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03925481075910801862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388102730480502056.post-22400324765891276962010-03-24T15:43:00.002-04:002010-03-24T15:52:43.554-04:00Oh Lynda Barry....<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.drawnandquarterly.com/211bernard/uploaded_images/what_it_is-787841.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 510px; height: 665px;" src="http://www.drawnandquarterly.com/211bernard/uploaded_images/what_it_is-787841.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />The lecture from this tuesday was absolutely fantastic. On friday I went and picked up one of the free copies of her book, What It Is, and read it that same night. It was extremely inspiring to hear from an experienced artist/cartoonist that it's okay to be a kid and remain curious about how our memories relate later on in life. She spoke honestly and with such a genuine tone. Her work reflected a deep exploration of image and space, but remained personal by the way she composed the pages. Overall, I've learned from her that stories and personal experiences are such an important aspect to art and one should never stifle play. Play keeps us sane.Dana Laskowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03925481075910801862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388102730480502056.post-69829136753026674592010-03-17T15:45:00.002-04:002010-03-17T16:09:22.838-04:00If you don't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.transgender-net.de/Musik/rupaul.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 367px; height: 499px;" src="http://www.transgender-net.de/Musik/rupaul.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Instead of blogging about the lecture (since it was just registration for next semester) I am going to say a little bit about my inspiration for 3d casting. Drag queens have to be one of the most interesting subjects when it comes to identity, gender, and transformation. Another reason I chose to use drag queens as inspiration comes from the intolerance that is around campus. I also see drag as more of an expression of self, much like creating art work, except the canvas is the human body. The response piece will include 5 cast faces in either wax or slip, and transform each of the faces to look like either different types of drag queen personas or show the steps of how to do drag inspired make-up. I hope to also make a book to show the steps, but also include a small excerpt on why tolerance and self-love are important aspects of life. <br /><br />Inspiration:<br /><br />Rupaul<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://pitzeruncovered.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/400_rupaul_090226_logo.0.0.0x0.400x400.jpg"><img style="display:block; That website motivates me to do more with my life than almost anything. Second, technology is scary. The program that Blaise and Microsoft worked on to link all photos together to form composite images is mind-numbing. Like most technological advancements, they are cool in theory but scare me as to where things will be heading in the future. <br /><br /><b>Digital Designers Rediscover Their Hands</b><br />This article was simultaneously depressing but also reassuring that people recognize the importance of maintaining skills that require hands on figuring out. The program will hopefully inspire some progressive thinking and bridge a gap where technology and craft get totally lost. The depressing side to the matter is that for a certain group of people craft and hands on activity are lost to a virtual wonderland where almost anything is possible. That's another story though since I have a difficult time bridging the gap between computers actually having an impact on the world/being part of reality and the physical world. The lines need to stop getting blurred, in my opinion.<br /><br /><b>Teen's Photo Used in Virgin Mobile Ad</b><br />Virgin Mobile is certainly in the wrong about what they did to this girl, however the reporter made a good point that the "creative commons" violation/exploitation is a part of it. In general, this is why I do not upload a lot of my artwork (at least in high res) or post photos when anyone anywhere can take advantage of the media. Look at facebook, for example. They use photos and names of your friends to convince you to take quizzes or participate in offers. It's all a huge scam and we're the people being exploited. <br /><br /><b>The Laws that Choke Creativity</b><br />It's a pirates life for me. <br /><br /><object width="446" height="326"><param name="movie" value="http://video.ted.com/assets/player/swf/EmbedPlayer.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><param name="bgColor" value="#ffffff"></param> <param name="flashvars" value="vu=http://video.ted.com/talks/dynamic/LarryLessig_2007-medium.flv&su=http://images.ted.com/images/ted/tedindex/embed-posters/LarryLessig-2007.embed_thumbnail.jpg&vw=432&vh=240&ap=0&ti=187&introDuration=16500&adDuration=4000&postAdDuration=2000&adKeys=talk=larry_lessig_says_the_law_is_strangling_creativity;year=2007;theme=not_business_as_usual;theme=tales_of_invention;theme=presentation_innovation;event=TED2007;&preAdTag=tconf.ted/embed;tile=1;sz=512x288;" /><embed src="http://video.ted.com/assets/player/swf/EmbedPlayer.swf" pluginspace="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" bgColor="#ffffff" width="446" height="326" allowFullScreen="true" flashvars="vu=http://video.ted.com/talks/dynamic/LarryLessig_2007-medium.flv&su=http://images.ted.com/images/ted/tedindex/embed-posters/LarryLessig-2007.embed_thumbnail.jpg&vw=432&vh=240&ap=0&ti=187&introDuration=16500&adDuration=4000&postAdDuration=2000&adKeys=talk=larry_lessig_says_the_law_is_strangling_creativity;year=2007;theme=not_business_as_usual;theme=tales_of_invention;theme=presentation_innovation;event=TED2007;"></embed></object>Dana Laskowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03925481075910801862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388102730480502056.post-49184030197380189662010-01-27T16:51:00.010-05:002010-01-27T17:20:30.261-05:00Philadelphia: Sunsets, Animals, and Adventures<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf" width="288" height="192" flashvars="host=picasaweb.google.com&hl=en_US&feat=flashalbum&RGB=0x000000&feed=http%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2Fmouthdecaylasky%2Falbumid%2F5431528116387192257%3Falt%3Drss%26kind%3Dphoto%26hl%3Den_US" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>Last week were told told to explore the city and photograph/find various items to recall our trip. Well, I took a different approach and reviewed the past semester (along with a few current additions) and collected photos of Philadelphia that have some meaning to me. Sunsets/sunrises are fairly cliche, but they are my favorite thing to capture when in a large city. Seeing the colorful sky against cold industry is just so satisfying. These two are my favorite from the set:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVpa-6m7HbEYtUN-BKmq95FwTeIq5JwBlazYh2_mirantrUYBlzCcrwW7bSRUmmxBfX0JFhJp7csT1w5kqvgUoQPciRTieSSLj6W46c1Iz-_vLXIQ_G-w_aaSdkj1AA2uwQwrvrs7bImci/s1600-h/0118101701.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVpa-6m7HbEYtUN-BKmq95FwTeIq5JwBlazYh2_mirantrUYBlzCcrwW7bSRUmmxBfX0JFhJp7csT1w5kqvgUoQPciRTieSSLj6W46c1Iz-_vLXIQ_G-w_aaSdkj1AA2uwQwrvrs7bImci/s320/0118101701.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431544429522938738" border="0" /></a>Fairmont Park, 2 weeks ago, running around with my friend Skyler.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGbed-Jh1WDtwFoiHG3MRaF_etY-rq5Z75pGk5Dtm8Bq1c7BP7Y4M8lIDOuZtI22fv-tHn9wpXwCcDzSRe1eMJMycBAHj9AjBBdYKIgl3qb6Un-t4P97Fg3yQcPV06hyphenhyphen9YdUa5QS6ZQ2MB/s1600-h/DSCN1449.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGbed-Jh1WDtwFoiHG3MRaF_etY-rq5Z75pGk5Dtm8Bq1c7BP7Y4M8lIDOuZtI22fv-tHn9wpXwCcDzSRe1eMJMycBAHj9AjBBdYKIgl3qb6Un-t4P97Fg3yQcPV06hyphenhyphen9YdUa5QS6ZQ2MB/s320/DSCN1449.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431544994865707010" border="0" /></a>This was taken after the failure of flying a kite in November (see below). Dear creepy furry running around campus, what is wrong with you? That's all I have to say about that matter. If you're a furry, that's cool. Chances are that around here people might harass you and/or beat you up. Just be careful random furry girl, whoever you were.<br /><br />There are far too many animal pictures to really go into detail about them individually, but as you can see I am a huge fan of dead squirrels, live squirrels, and cats. I am an even bigger fan of dead birds, but have yet to find any around campus or in the city.<br /><br />A lot of traveling has happened over the past semester, but I never took the time or effort to get any better quality pictures of my adventures. There is a lot of running around and frolicking, which is a danger for a camera. Here is my favorite found item while frolicking around past midnight:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFNf_az3bqsZTHoDBWcGoGqIgioNCevS0Q6_v4hL7398TL31az3XyeaDXCLWVKis_7h-wL_NJGuMCrTOq_DFHvlBH2yM8uMNlcoY6safzaL_eFAq6ELzsoQM3IRRrR3wQG8nMhgw2sJ3FN/s1600-h/note005.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 198px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFNf_az3bqsZTHoDBWcGoGqIgioNCevS0Q6_v4hL7398TL31az3XyeaDXCLWVKis_7h-wL_NJGuMCrTOq_DFHvlBH2yM8uMNlcoY6safzaL_eFAq6ELzsoQM3IRRrR3wQG8nMhgw2sJ3FN/s320/note005.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431546574305484178" border="0" /></a>A beautiful broken U-lock just laying by a totally trashed bike.<br /><br />Sketches and observations of the city will be posted tonight or tomorrow. Also, more stories to come of past and present adventures around the city just so I never forget. Hopefully that isn't terribly irrelevant for this class.<br /><br /></div></div>Dana Laskowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03925481075910801862noreply@blogger.com0
